FAQs

Why is exercise so important to prevent falls?

According to the CT CDC, in order to prevent falls you must exercise 50 hours in 3 months. This is 4 hours of exercise a week or 4-6 days a week for 30-60 minutes. This exercise should include aerobic exercise, flexibility exercises, strengthening exercises, and balance exercises. The CT CDC reports that falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older adults in the U.S. and Connecticut.  A growing number of older adults fear falling, and as a result, limit their activities and social life which can lead to depression and physical decline. Also, falls are the leading cause of injury-related death for CT residents 65 years of age and older.  Body In Balance Physical Therapy, LLC can help you prevent falls through skilled physical therapy or wellness sessions.

Why is exercise so important to improve function for those with Parkinson's Disease?

In order to improve neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to form and reorganize neural connections) and improve motor function in Parkinson's disease, 30 min. a day at least 5 days a week of exercise is recommended. Cardiovascular exercises 3x week for 30 minutes at moderate to high intensity are shown in the research to slow the progression of Parkinson's Disease and improve functional motor performance.  In addition, 2-3x a week, exercises should focus on strength, balance, and flexibility for at least 30 minutes. The earlier your diagnosis and you begin an exercise routine, the less progression you will get of Parkinson's Disease. You can be guided in your exercise program here at Body In Balance Physical Therapy, LLC.

Does Body In Balance Physical Therapy, LLC take my insurance?

My goal is the treat you with exceptional physical therapy and working directly with insurance companies doesn’t allow us to treat you the way we think you should be treated.  At insurance based physical therapy offices, your physical therapist is forced to see multiple patients an hour due to poor reimbursement from insurance companies.  Your physical therapy visits are often cut short, your physical therapist sees you for 15-20 minutes and then is off to work with another patient and you are sometimes bounced from one therapist to another reducing consistency and quality of care.  Insurance companies are also deciding how long you need therapy and what your goals can be in therapy by limiting the number of visits you can have.

At Body In Balance Physical Therapy and Wellness, we will see you for hour long visits and work on your goals to return to an active lifestyle. We are giving you more of a choice when it comes to your physical therapy:  the choice to choose your qualified therapist and stay with that qualified therapist through your entire treatment plan avoiding being passed off to a less qualified provider.  We are giving you the choice to meet your own movement and wellness goals, not what the insurance company thinks your goals should be, and the choice to continue with wellness sessions to get you fully back to and keep you active.

For all insurances except Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans, when you call to inquire or book an appointment with us, we can send you a self-explanatory form that you can fill out when you call your insurance to see if you have out-of-network physical therapy benefits.  You will then know if and how much you can get reimbursed for your out-of-network physical therapy visits.  At Body In Balance Physical Therapy and Wellness, you may also be able to use your HSA or FSA to pay for physical therapy services.  Have a high deductible plan?  At Body In Balance Physical Therapy and Wellness, you will never spend more than 150 dollars for a physical therapy visit.  When you go to an insurance based physical therapist and have a high deductible then you may be paying up to 350 or more out of pocket per visit, sometimes two to three times a week.  For all insurances except Medicare or Medicare Advantage Plans that have out of network physical therapy coverage, you can submit your super bill after receiving physical therapy if you so desire.

For Medicare beneficiaries:  We are an unenrolled provider with Medicare, therefore, we can only accept Medicare beneficiaries as patients when they do not want Medicare billed for any PT services.  The request to not involve Medicare in payment of physical therapy services must be made upfront by the patient. If you do want to use your Medicare benefits for physical therapy, we can help you find a good Medicare provider in your area.
